Every month dozens of new Lineage 2 private servers open. Some of them grow into stable projects that live for years, others close two weeks after the start. The difference is rarely visible on the banner — but it is visible if you know what to check. This checklist is what experienced players look at before they spend their evenings on a new server.
1. Decide what kind of game you want
Before comparing servers, answer three questions honestly:
- How much time do you have? 1–2 hours a day fits mid or high rates. If you can play 4+ hours and enjoy slow progression, low rates (x1–x15) give the most “real” Lineage 2 experience.
- Do you want PvP right away or a long economy game? High-rate and PvP servers (x1000+) are about fighting from day one. Low-rate servers are about leveling, crafting, clans and sieges over months.
- Which chronicle do you enjoy? Interlude is the classic choice, High Five has more content, Essence is modern and fast. See our chronicles comparison if you are not sure.
2. Check the rates — and what they really multiply
“x50” on a banner usually means experience and SP, but adena, drop, spoil and quest rewards can have different multipliers. Good servers publish a full rates table: EXP/SP, Adena, Drop, Spoil, Raid Boss drop, quest rates, enchant chances. If you cannot find it on the website, that is already a warning sign. 3. Look at the donation shop before you register
Almost every private server has donations — that is how they pay for hosting and development. The question is what you can buy:
- Fair: cosmetics, premium account (bonus EXP/drop), name change, convenience items.
- Grey zone: enchant scrolls, top-grade consumables, boosted premium that doubles progression.
- Pay-to-win: weapons and armor with high enchant, epic jewelry, anything that decides fights.
If the shop sells items that win PvP, the server usually becomes empty once the first wave of donators is geared.
4. Opening date, beta test and start bonuses
Most projects announce an opening date weeks in advance and run an open beta test (OBT) before launch. OBT is the best moment to check stability, balance and the client. 5. Online: real players or numbers on a website?
An online counter on the website is easy to fake. More reliable signals:
- active Discord or Telegram with real conversations, not only announcements;
- streams of the server on Twitch or YouTube (check our Streams page);
- crowded starting locations and trade in Giran during the first days;
- forum threads and reviews from players who played previous seasons.
6. Files, protection and the administration
Stable server files mean fewer bugs, rollbacks and “dupes”. Check whether the project has anti-bot protection, how the team reacts to bug reports and whether they have run previous seasons. A team with a history of long-living servers is a much safer bet than a brand-new name with a big promise.
7. Wipes and server lifetime
Ask directly: are wipes planned? Many mid- and high-rate servers restart every few months as a “new season” — that is normal if it is announced in advance. A server that promises “no wipes ever” should have a history that proves it.
8. Ping and language
Lineage 2 is sensitive to latency in PvP and Olympiad. Choose a server hosted close to you (EU, RU, NA, Asia) and a community whose language you speak — clans and parties are the heart of the game.
